Jonathan VanDyke vive e lavora a New York. Nel 2005 si è laureato in Scultura presso il Bard College, ha poi frequentato la Skowhegan School nel 2008 e l’Atlantic Center for the Arts nel 2007, dove ha seguito le lezioni dell’artista Paul Pfeiffer. Tra le mostre personali più recenti si possono ricordare The Long Glance presso la Albright-Knox Art Gallery di Buffalo, With One Hand Between us, tenutasi in occasione di Performa 2011, New York City, e The Painter of the Hole, presso Scaramouche, NY, 2013. Nel Dicembre del 2011 ha creato una nuova performance e una installazione su commissione del The Power Plant di Toronto nel contesto della mostra Coming After. La lunga performance Cordoned Area è stata presentata presso la National Academy Museum, New York (2013), la Vox Populi, Philadephia (2012) e il Socrates Sculpture Park, New York (2011). VanDyke ha partecipato a numerose mostre collettive, presso gallerie e diverse istituzioni come: Islip Art Museum, Y Gallery, On Stellar Rays, Columbia University, PS122 (New York); Museum of Fine Arts, Tallahassee; Luis de Jesus, Los Angeles; Rutgers University, University of Nevada, Texas State University, University of Wolverhampton, UK; Exile Gallery, Berlino.

 

Durante la sua residenza, VanDyke porta avanti la sua ricerca sul cinema di Michelangelo Antonioni e presenta la performance “Self Portrait as My Mother, as an Actress, as a Painter, as a Stranger” presso la galleria 1/9unosunove di Roma

Jonathan VanDyke is a visual artist based in New York City. VanDyke received an MFA in Sculpture from Bard College in 2005, attended the Skowhegan School in 2008, and in 2007 attended the Atlantic Center for the Arts, where he was mentored by the artist Paul Pfeiffer. Recent solo projects include The Long Glance at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, With One Hand Between Us, part of Performa 2011, New York City, and The Painter of the Hole, at Scaramouche, NY, 2013. In December 2011 he mounted a new performance and installation, commissioned by The Power Plant in Toronto as part of their exhibition Coming After. His durational performance work Cordoned Area has appared at The National Academy Museum, New York (2013), Vox Populi, Philadelphia (2012), and Socrates Sculpture Park, New York (2011). His work has appeared in group exhibitions at the Islip Art Museum, Y Gallery, On Stellar Rays, Columbia University, and PS122, all in New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Tallahassee; Luis de Jesus, Los Angeles; Rutgers University, University of Nevada, Texas State University, and University of Wolverhampton, England; and Exile Gallery, Berlin, among others.

During his residency, VanDyke develops his previous research on the cinema director Micheloangelo Antonioni and presents the performance ”Self Portrait as My Mother, as an Actress, as a Painter, as a Stranger” at 1/9unosunove gallery in Rome.
